Hair Transplantation Guidelines

The following guidelines contain general information to guide you before, during, and after your procedure.

Prior to your hair transplant procedure, you will be given more detailed pre-operation instructions, both orally and written.

These guidelines include avoiding aspirin, ibuprofen, consuming alcohol, and using medications for at least 7 days prior to surgery, as well as limiting caffeine intake.

In short:

❊ Try limiting smoking to three cigarettes a day.

❊ Avoid consuming alcohol 48 h before your operation.

❊ Avoid taking aspirin or ibuprofen, or any blood thinners.

❊ It’s not recommended to wear t-shirts or other apparel garments that would come into contact with your head, because If you pull your clothes over your head, you will be risking transplanted areas to be scratched. It would be easier to put on a sweater.

Sleeping Position

You should sleep on your back in a semi-upright position with two or three pillows. This location can help to reduce any swelling that can occur following the hair transplant.

Silians Paris Clinic Health will also supply you with a neck pillow after the operation. You will shield your freshly transplanted hair from injury while sleeping if you use the neck pillow.

Pain Management

After your hair transplant operation, you may feel moderate discomfort for a few days, and some patients experience trouble sleeping.

Swelling

Swelling of the forehead and the skin above the eyes is possible. It will last Between 2 to 5 days after your hair transplant. in case you had a sudden headache, apply an ice pack to your forehead and eyes.

Also, keep in mind that ice compresses can never be used on the receiver or donor fields.

Crust, Itching, And Bleeding

There should be no signs of dried blood, scabs, or crust on the scalp 7-10 days after FUE hair transplantation. If any crusts remain after 7 days, gently scrape them when shampooing your hair.

It’s possible that the skin will get itchy after an FUE hair transplant. This is a very normal sensation that lasts for around 10-15 days. Scratching the receiver and sender areas will have a detrimental impact on the outcome.

There could be a small amount of liquid, like blood, on the pillow after the hair transplant procedure. Do not be alarmed; this is not spontaneous bleeding; just the blood pumped into the scalp during the surgery is leaking out.

Hair Washing

After hair transplantation, Silian Paris Clinic Health will supply you with a special medicinal shampoo and lotion to use. Hair can be washed in three simple steps:

1- Apply the lotion to the receiver area softly by pressing (do not rub) and leave it on for about 45 minutes. This will soften the scabs that have formed around the transplanted grafts. The lotion can be washed off with lukewarm water after 45 minutes.

2- You will spray the donor and receiver areas with a special medicinal shampoo. To do so, pour a small amount of shampoo into your palm and softly tap it all over your scalp. Please gently touch your transplanted region with your fingertips to clean it.

You should also wash the donor region and massage it to improve blood supply. Often, make sure the water pressure is low. It’s also important to thoroughly rinse the shampoo and lotion off your scalp.

3- When you’ve finished washing your hair, kindly pat it dry with a paper towel. Just use paper towels because they are soft and do not damage the grafts that have been inserted. To get rid of the scabs and dried blood, you must repeat these three steps every day for 14 days. After 14 days, you will begin washing your hair normally.

Short Term Healing

While some numbness and minor soreness can be expected for several days after the surgery, most patients feel better within a day or two.

Patients usually regain their natural appearance within 15 days of surgery. At this time, a little redness will appear. Those with lighter skin types are more likely to experience prolonged scalp redness.

Long Term Healing

You will get some red patches in your transplanted region during the cosmetic healing process. After 7-10 days, they will disappear.

After 15 days, the transplanted hair may begin to fall out, and it may continue to fall out for the next two months.

Your hair will begin to develop three months after the transplant.

After 6 months, the transplanted hair will be clear, and after 12 months, you will have the desired effect.

If the beard was used as the donor area:

If beard grafts were used as donor material, the beard may be shaved after a week. Within a month, the donor region is normally fully healed.

Haircuts:

You can shave your hair using scissors starting from the first month after your hair transplant.

After completing 6 months you can go back to use shaving machine .

Physical Activities, Sun & Holiday

You should avoid all athletic activity for the first month after the hair transplant operation, including rugby, basketball, and any other body-contact activity, as well as weight lifting, swimming, and running.

Direct sunlight can be avoided at all costs because it will damage the scalp and face.

It is often recommended to use an umbrella or, if possible, a special loose hat to escape the glare.

If you want to go on vacation after your surgery, you can wait until after your first month to swim in pools or the sea.

Smoking and Alcohol

Alcohol and nicotine thins the blood causing inflammation, extending the healing time of the wounds. It is preferable to wait two weeks after hair transplant before drinking or smoking.
